Four hundred years ago members of the Japanese aristocracy held moon viewing parties and poetry contests. What were the children doing? Playing on their iphones.
Such is the nature of present day hedonism which, lacking a memory and ignorant of the future, is not constrained by time.
Lo there shall come a day that everything outside our minds will be on screens. All information will be presented as neat fonts, as hyperlinks. No factoid an island, all will be connected. When download speeds slow the world will face chaos. When they speed up again the world will be busy. When the system crashes there will be riots.
